This edition, we have two Tel Aviv picks, vexillological infographics and a nifty tool for editing websites.
Podcast: Tel Aviv's White Elephant on 99PI
One of my longtime favourite podcasts, 99 Percent Invisible collaborated on a recent episode with a newer favourite, Israel Story, with a feature on Tel Aviv's monstrosity of a central bus station. Listen to it, then subscribe to both shows if you haven't already.
Staying in Tel Aviv, local folk band Jane Bordeaux released a new video for their track Ma'agalim ('circles' in Hebrew). Produced by Pixar/Dreamworks/Sony animator Uri Lotan, it's a beautifully detailed clip of day-to-day life inside a wooden penny arcade.
Infographics: Flag Stories
Danish infographic specialists Ferdio collected the flags of the world and made a bunch of infographics illustrating their colours, layout schemes and symbols. The insights are superficial, but it is interesting to see the emergent patterns and similarities across different nations' standards.
So simple I can hardly believe I haven't seen something similar before. This little bookmarklet — just one line of Javascript — allows you to edit, live, the text on any webpage. Handy tool for web designers, fun toy for pranksters.
Quick plug: I'm launching my newsletter this week. Sign up below and you'll get my Observed posts, pus a few notes and reckons that don't quite fit into the regular Observed digest format. Go on, sign up. If you don't like what you see, just unsubscribe — no hard feelings.
